The latest meeting of the Wyre Forest and District Centre, took place at Blakedown Parish Rooms, where Adrian Sumner, arts development officer for the city of Chester, talked about "All Human Life: The Kaleidoscope of Victorian Painting".
Painter, lecturer and tour leader Mr Sumner said the title reflected the multi-faceted Victorian period, and the paintings which recorded the life of the time.
He talked about railway development and industrialisation, the growth of newspapers and journal, and the need for illustrations, including political cartoons. In 1848 the pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was formed, with many new ideas. New subjects were introduced - including nudes, the ballet, and fairies.
Details of this group's activities are available from secretary Marjorie Fernihough on 01562 883460.
