THE NFU is warning farmers living close to the M5/M50 corridor to be on their guard after a spate of suspected arson attacks on farm buildings.
West Mercia Police are investigating 11 possible incidents of arson in which 1,200 tonnes of hay, straw and corn have been destroyed.
Every blaze has happened within a 90 minute time window between 10.40pm and 12.15am and within a few minutes drive of the motorways.
"Obviously we are very concerned about these incidents and are working closely with the police and the fire brigade to raise awareness among the farming community," said NFU spokesman Russell Griffin. "We would urge farmers to be on their guard and take whatever security measures they are able to in a bid to prevent their buildings being targeted."
Anyone faced with an emergency, including an ongoing suspicious incident, should dial 999. Otherwise call the West Mercia Police on 08457 444888.
