THE clocks might have gone back and summer long gone but cricket's still big news at Alcester and Ragley.
Hot on the heels of the Under 12s winning the Cotswold Hills Junior league and the Under-14s finishing runners up, the youth section at Ragley Park is anything but quiet.
Not only is the club working hard to gain Sport England Clubmark Accreditation but nine talented youngsters have recently attended county trials for Warwickshire and are eagerly awaiting their results.
Coach Dave Swinburn said: :This was a great experience for the youngsters and we are very proud that they have got this far."
Meanwhile, last season's popularity - more than 50 players registered - means that officials will be adding an Under-13 team to run alongside the Under-12s, 14s and 16s.
This is a first for the club and bodes well for the seniors who retained their position in the Cotswold Premier Division.
With the growth of the youth section , Alcester and Ragley are keen to attract local businesses to become shirt sponsors for each team. Interested sponsors who would like to join the success story and any eager youngsters who would like to join the club should contact youth section manager Simon Whitmore on 07720 805156.
The club is committed to improving training facilities for local players and the youth section is planning to launch some major fund raising activities in order to raise £2,000 to buy a bowling machine.
