TOWN Reserves travelled to Stourport for this Worcester Junior Cup match and played on a very uneven surface.
ARELEY KINGS 2, MALVERN TOWN RES 2 (aet)
(Areley won on penalties)
Malvern turned up with a bare 11 players due to first team call ups, holiday commitments and Mike Robert being unavailable due to breaking his nose midweek.
Areley took the lead on 20 minutes when a series of defensive miss-kicks allowed the number nine an easy chance and he scored off the upright. Midfielders Dan Finnigan and Peter Rose had outstanding games, and it was Rose who found Barry Hughes in space and the striker hammered the ball home for an equaliser.
Dave Knapper already struggling with a back injury had to leave the field after 30minutes and Town worked extra hard to turn around 1-1.
As happens in some games the ten man Malvern team took the lead when Hughes beat three defenders and set up Chris Fellows for a well deserved lead. Areley pumped a long ball down the middle straight from the restart and the number ten levelled the scores once more.
The game went into extra time and with no further scoring the tie was settled by a penalty shoot out. Ollie Endacott and keeper Jamie Lambert both scored for Town whilst Adam Simpson blasted over and Ed Lyons had his effort saved. Areley were successful with all their attempts to go through to the next round.
