THE Abbey College are playing with a completely new team in the Brewin Dolphin Malvern Table Tennis Division Three this season as their very competitive team from the last two years have left the college.
In their first match Cheng Chen with two wins and Peng Wang with one and pairing up for a doubles win accounted well for themselves. Ian Sage won all his three sets and Collette James won two and Viv Tolley one for the Dynamos. Half the sets went to five games and another to four and seven games went beyond 10 all.
Stephen Lindner and Ted Cates both won a set for Crackpots B against Uckinghall and their team were unlucky in other sets losing in all of the four that went to a fifth game and two of them by 9-11. During the evening 16 games were won by just two points. Pete Nash was the most successful player on the night with three singles and the doubles with Roger Davies. Roger won two singles and so did Matt Jones.
When the Abbey College and Crackpots B met the Bs were too strong for the youngsters. Karina took Ted Cates to five games and Gary did the same against Alan Forsdike but they could not save the whitewash.
Against the Allsorts the college fared better with Gary and Cheng winning two each and Rain winning one. For the Allsorts Bill Nelson won three and Alex Lindner one and they won the doubles. Alex was close to winning another set when he lost 11-13 in the fifth game.
Crackpots B had a very good evening with X-Police. Alan Holmes and Alan Forsdike enjoyed themselves with Alan Holmes eventually coming out on top and saving the whitewash for Police. Steve Mulka played well for Police in only his second league game. Ted Cates and Stephen Lindner won three each and the doubles for Crackpots.
Manor Park Crackpots and Abbeydowne had a long hard evening. Five sets went to five games and another two to three and tow other sets were only won by 11-9 in the third game. Roy Holland and Peter Denniss each won a set for the visitors but Stan Gin and Richard Cullis each won three singles for Crackpots and Ed Palmer one and the doubles with Richard.
RESULTS: Abbey College 4, Dukes Way Dynamos 6; Crackpots B 2, Uckinghall 8; Abbey College 0, Crackpots B 10; Abbey College 5, Manor Park Allsorts 5; Crackpots B 9, X-Police 1; Manor Park Crackpots 8, Abbeydowne 2.
