The Chandos Symphony Orchestra is set to shake the foundations of the Malvern Theatres with its next concert.

More than 115 members from across the country will perform a varied and rousing repertoire on November 14.

Orchestral manager Roger Clift said: "The second half of the programme is Strauss' Ein Heldenleben, which is huge - we're going to be loud.

"It's a piece our conductor Michael Lloyd has really wanted to do, and we're lucky that we've got a wide range of musicians to be able to do it."

The concert also includes Berlioz's Les Francs-Juges and last year's Chandos young musician of the year, Stella Hartikainen, will perform Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto.

Mr Clift said: "We always offer our winning young musician a chance to perform a concerto at one of our concerts, but it's not always possible, so this concert will be special in that way."

The orchestra, formed in Malvern in 1978, performs around five concerts per year under the guidance of professional conductor and director Michael Lloyd.

Unlike other amateur orchestras, the Chandos does not meet for regular rehearsals. Instead members take part in an intensive two-weekend practice before each concert.

"Because our musicians come from far afield, this rehearsal schedule suits them best," said Mr Clift.

"The Chandos is a very special orchestra with a very special conductor. I really enjoy playing and am looking forward to the next concert."

The concert takes place at the Forum at 7.45pm. Tickets are £8 to £13 on 01684 892277.
