The new Third Division looks like it's going to be a tough one to get out of this year, with the opening two matches both being drawn.
Broadway Belters went two behind against Cripplegate Guild. The turning point came in doubles when Brett Brining and Peter Roberts teamed up to beat Gordon Nicklin and Phil Houghton.
Elsewhere, YMCA Falcon's John Stalker is going to be a force to be reckoned with after beating Himbleton 'C's Adam Throssell and Brian George without reply.
Division Four newcomers YMCA Wildcats were beaten 10-0 in both their two opening matches against Worcester Golf and Country Club and St Martins.
YMCA Elizabethans came away from St George's Dragons with a 7-3 win. Chris Hughes comfortably won all his three singles and combined with Brian Ovinton to take the doubles. The latter also contributed two singles wins for the visitors but was hard pressed to beat fast-improving youngster Robert Hodges 13-11 in the deciding fifth set.
Hodges later contested another tight five setter against Reg Stobbs and emerged a 12-10 winner in the decider. Steve Mills added the other two singles for the visitors in beating Ovington and Stobbs.
Mills again won two singles for the Dragons on their visit to St Martins. This, however, was the limit of the visitors' success, as they were beaten 8-2 with Dave Watton unbeaten for the hosts.
