A WALL painting that commemorates the infamous Castlemorton rave of 1992 has helped its creator Jeremy Deller win the Turner Prize.
The History of the World 1997-2004 was one of a collection of pieces the 38-year-old artist submitted for the prestigious £25,000 art prize.
The flow chart drawing was a record of the thought process behind some of the performance art Deller has staged.
Towards the centre of the frame is the name of Castlemorton, which hit national headlines when the common was overrun when travellers and ravers staged a four-day party.
The name is surrounded by phrases such as "free party", "media hysteria", "sound systems", "acid house" and "civil unrest".
Through his work, Deller aimed to trace the link between the Acid House scene of the late 1980s and the traditional brass band.
One of the methods he used to illustrate this was by inviting a brass band to play classic Acid House anthems.
Judges praised his "generosity of spirit across a succession of projects which engage with the social and cultural contacts and celebrate creativity and individuals."
