JOHN Snape credits Worcester City strike duo, Leon Kelly and Mark Owen, with helping turn the club's fortunes around.

The pair have scored 16 goals between them in their last 15 games and Snape believes their developing partnership is beginning to pay dividends.

Owen's winner against Chelmsford City on Saturday made it four wins out of six in the league and hoisted City to third in the Dr Martens Premier Division.

"They are beginning to click and if they play well, so do we," said Snape.

"Their great asset is their pace and Leon is strong with it. He likes people to be close and then run them down the side.

"Their all-round game is improving and what's come on in the last couple of games is that they are showing to feet, giving us more options."

Snape rates the pair highly, comparing them to former City duo Evran and Henry Wright, who he played alongside at Stourbridge and Halesowen.

"They remind me a bit of the Wright brothers but they could be even better if they stick together but it's up to them," added Snape. "I still think we could do with a big target man at times to take the pressure off them but Leon and Mark have made the difference."

Snape feels things are slowly sliding into place, both on and off the field and paid tribute to stand-in coach John Newman who has been filling the void left by Mick Tuohy's departure.

"I've never worked with John Newman before but he's been a calming influence on everybody and I'm including the gaffer in that," said Snape.

"They're good friends and bounce ideas off each other."

Elsewhere Snape is delighted with Liam McDonald's emergence and the return to form of Pat Lyons and Adam Wilde.

"Pat Lyons is playing a lot better and for me Adam Wilde is playing 10 times better," he added.

"If he can get more crosses in the box, we'll score a lot more goals."

Snape admits the club's rocky spell earlier in the season was disappointing but is relishing the challenge of the next few months.

"I think we could, and should have done better but now we need a good finish to the season.

"I've had a look at our run in and I don't think it's any harder than anybody else's but we get to play the top three teams so there's going to be some interesting games to look out for especially going to Stafford and Weymouth.

"We haven't done well at Stafford recently but these are games we have to win."
