MALVERN RFC began their Midlands Two (West) campaign on Saturday with two away points at Leamington thanks to a 15-23 victory.
David Robins, Malvern director of rugby, was pleased with his team's efforts and said: "It wasn't terribly pretty at times, but in the heat our pack ground down their opposite numbers and set up loads of possession for the backs. We still have to do some work in that department, especially on angles of running, to ensure that we utilise the speed of Young and Fleming on the wings.
"Our fitness levels were good and we destroyed them up front, the area of major concern last year. Paul Essenhigh and Liam Middleton's coaching has upped our efficiency tremendously."
Malvern play Old Coventrians at Spring Lane tomorrow (Saturday). Kick-off 3pm.
Robins said: "Word has it that they are also very strong up front, so we look forward to another absorbing tussle."
