THE angry, late 1970s will be revisited when the city's first big punk rock festival shakes the walls of Worcester Arts Workshop tomorrow.

There will be 25 acts, and gig-goers will be able to see top UK touring bands play alongside Worcester bands in the day-long event.

Punters will be able to choose from three stages of live music, including an acoustic stage.

The event is being run by Crisis Promotions, and acoustic promoters 1147am will be running a stage in the caf bar at the workshop.

The outside courtyard will be transformed into a chill out area with a barbecue, DJs, clothing stalls, and competitions to win skate items donated by Spine, Worcester's only independent skate store.

There'll also be apple bobbing to win punk prizes from punk rock labels such as Household Name, Kung Fu, Side One Dummy, Lockjaw and clothing companies like Eastpack.

"We're calling this a festival - it goes on from 2pm until 11pm," says Ben Turner, drummer in band Tribute To Nothing, who runs Crisis Promotions.

"There will be bands coming from Winchester, Welsh bands, and bands from this area.

"This is the culmination of months of ideas being thrown about by everyone at Crisis, and I feel it will give everyone in Worcester who can't get to a large festival the chance to really see what fun punk rock can be.

"This really is an event run by the scene for the scene in my mind, as nearly all the local bands will be helping out on the day as well as playing."

Howard's Alias, Opium, Second Monday, Fletcher, The Fallout Theory, Pete's Sake,

Somewhere In between and Backwash are just some of the names playing at the event.

Howard's Alias are the main headline band. Entry costs £6.

Worcester Arts Workshop is situated on Sansome Walk, Worcester.
