CAF culture could be heading for Droitwich Spa with plans for a new coffee bar set to go ahead.

Members of Droitwich town council gave their seal of approval to a proposal for a coffee shop at 20, Victoria Square, at a recent meeting.

Previously the planning committee had expressed their reservations about the application, which had been submitted by the owners of the Salt Rock Caf, in Gurneys Lane. The unit, formerly Hawthorn Designs, is next to St Richard's House. The committee asked for further information about the type of food the shop would be serving, as they were worried cooking fumes may be emitted from the unit.

Cllr Richard Morris, planning committee chairman (Con-South East), reported only cold foods such as salads and cakes would be served.

"I can honestly see no reason why we should object to it," he added.

However, Cllr Don Lawley (Con-South East) was worried hot food may still be served in the future.

"The only problem I see is that there are offices upstairs. Otherwise I can see no problems," he said.

While, Cllr Roy Seabourne (Lab-West) said: "I think this is a good idea."

Cllr Morris added: "Hopefully it will be a good enhancement to the square."

All councillors agreed planning permission should be granted.

Wychavon District Council's planning committee will now consider the matter.
