AN inquest into the death of a Stourport man who was paralysed in a road accident has been opened and adjourned.
Raymond Brownlow died on December 14, 2004 at Selly Oak Hospital, Birmingham after his car was in collision with another vehicle at Honeybrook on the Bridgnorth Road near Kidderminster on September 28.
The inquest heard from Coroner Victor Round Mr Brownlow, 60, of Prospect Road, had been travelling in the direction of Kidderminster when a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction lost control and came into his path. The weather had been raining and dull, Mr Round said.
Mr Brownlow sustained bad neck and back injuries in the accident, which had resulted in him being paralysed from the neck down.
He had been making good progress in intensive care at Selly Oak Hospital but had been suffering from recurrent chest infections caused by being paralysed.
The chest infections caused Mr Brownlow to develop bronchiectasis - a lung condition in which the bronchioles become enlarged and damaged. Bronchiectasis was given by the hospital as the cause of death.
Mr Round adjourned the inquest to a date to be fixed.
