UNWANTED bras of all sizes, colours and fabrics are needed by an artist to create a unique work of art.

Christine Reeve-Tucker will mark the first birthday of the Hereford Haven for breast cancer sufferers by creating a wall hanging for the drop-in centre in St Owen Street, Hereford.

Opened by Prince Charles on January 7, 2004, the Haven has offered information, counselling and advice to nearly 250 breast cancer sufferers and their families in its first year.

The anniversary wall hanging, which will have a "Tree of Hope" theme, will reinforce breast cancer awareness by using bra cups to represent some of the leaves.

It will also incorporate text, embroidery, appliqu and painting.

Any unwanted bras can be dropped off at Hereford Haven, 37, St Owen Street, Hereford, HR1 2JB or at Hereford College of Art, where Christine Reeve-Tucker is a student of fine and applied arts.

One of her pieces, Kimono, won the Waterstones prize in the College book competition in 2004 and her most recent work, Mappa Mundi 2004, was exhibited at the Cathedral during H'Art Week.

The artist is giving her time free for the Hereford Haven project, but would be grateful for any donations to help towards the cost of materials.
