Gardening Society: At the December meeting of Bidford Gardening Society, John and Anita Ruffell, from Alcester, presented a slide show of Scottish gardens. They have both been keen photographers for many years and their experience showed. It was accompanied by music and commentary from Anita. Among the gardens shown were Inverewe and Logan lying on the west coast where the gulf stream's influence enables sub-tropical plants such as tree fern and palms to thrive. There was a record number of entries for the monthly competition which was for a flower from your garden, which resulted: 1 Hilda Wakeham, 2 Beryl Ashton, 3 Annette Haynes, 4 Paula Smith. The next meeting is on Thursday, January 20 when Barry Locke, a Bidford boy, who is head gardener of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust Gardens, will be the speaker. Visitors are welcome at the Crawford Hall at 7.30.
