PLANS to erect a wind generator in an Area of Great Landscape Value in a Worcestershire village have been put on hold so planners can pay a visit to the site.
Malvern Hills District Council has received an application for the scheme at Noak Farm Barn in Clifton-on-Teme.
The site is on a hill with a large barn. The barn is a listed building - under conversion to residential use and the wind generator would be 36ft high.
The proposals also involve a carport and workshop being built with solar panels on the roof, within a wooded area to one side of the turbine.
And planners agreed at a meeting on Wednesday to defer the application so that a site visit could first be made before it was determined.
Several residents have objected to the scheme on the grounds they say it will cause noise pollution and the visual impact would have an adverse effect on the character of the area.
They also argue the turbine is highly prominent and visually intrusive from neighbouring properties and public footpaths.
The parish council strongly objects to the application, arguing that the workshop is disproportionate in relation to the barn.
It also has concerns the generator will be visible from all angles and will therefore affect not only the people in the parish but those from neighbouring parishes.
The Council for the Protection of Rural England has said more information is needed regarding wind speeds, power created and other alternative power sources available.
