I HAVE a revolutionary idea for the North Site, which, of course, will need discussion on various aspects, but would remove the traffic congestion problem at a stroke.
It is to make the entire new village car-free. Facilities would be provided for access for emergency vehicles and delivery vans (not exceeding a specified size). The site would be soaked with an affordable minibus service and the idea of a new railway station nearby sounds good.
An integrated public transport system would alleviate residents' need for personal transport and with most facilities to hand - shops, school, community centre, medical facility, business and recreation facilities - who needs expensive personal transport?
The village would also be a safe, pleasant place to live. Perhaps Dudley Brook's Poundbury role model suggestion would further enhance the scheme.
Big savings would be made by not needing the new road and not requiring other improvements in the surrounding area.
