MAY I suggest to all your readers who are supplied by Severn Trent and have water meters that they check carefully to see if their meters have been read correctly.
In late October we were given a reading which bore no relation to the right one and which resulted in a bill seven times what it ought to have been. I may add that it has taken two months to have the matter finally rectified.

Should be safe
G Lewis (Your Letters, December 31) is right. We weren't forced to buy a house in a narrow road. Buying a house is about choice and one of the reasons why we chose to live here was because we thought that a little one-way road with a 20 mph speed limit and restricted access would be reasonably quiet with little traffic and noise pollution, that would be relatively safe for children.
The misuse of this road has been long-standing and unfortunately the local road closure and increased volume of traffic merely exacerbated an existing problem. It most certainly has not been a problem for "a relatively short period".
I thought that G Lewis's letter was interesting given that a lot of money has been invested in traffic calming measures for Duke of Edinburgh Way.

Memories wanted
MAY I ask if any of your readers have memories or photographs of any of the airfields within the county during the Second World War.
As an historian, I am writing a book on the airfields within the area which will be published in the autumn of 2006 titled Herefordshire and Worcestershire Airfields in the Second World War.
The book will also include a chapter on the civilian bombing of the two counties and I would further ask if anyone has photos or memories of that period. Any material sent will be copied and returned to the owner ensuring a mention in the book and a complimentary copy.
