G Lewis (Your Letters, December 31) is right. We weren't forced to buy a house in a narrow road. Buying a house is about choice and one of the reasons why we chose to live here was because we thought that a little one-way road with a 20 mph speed limit and restricted access would be reasonably quiet with little traffic and noise pollution, that would be relatively safe for children.
The misuse of this road has been long-standing and unfortunately the local road closure and increased volume of traffic merely exacerbated an existing problem. It most certainly has not been a problem for "a relatively short period".
I thought that G Lewis's letter was interesting given that a lot of money has been invested in traffic calming measures for Duke of Edinburgh Way.
