A PUB in Worcester is popping the champagne corks after reaching the finals of a prestigious awards scheme.
Manager Paul Todd from the Courtyard public house, St Nicholas Street, Worcester has beaten competition from across the UK to make the short-list of The Publican Marketing Pub of the Year Award.
Designed to recognise the industry's top performers, the Publican Awards - dubbed the Oscars of the pub industry - will be held at London's Grosvenor Hotel in March.
Paul said he was delighted the pub had been chosen, adding: "My team works incredibly hard. Their enthusiasm and imagination has helped make this pub one of the best in the country.
"I have worked in the trade for 20 years, and to me, teamwork and marketing are the essential ingredients for success.
"That's why the Courtyard is well known for its wacky promotional events."
Paul is convinced that it's the special touches that make all the difference.
"We've put on an Ibiza night complete with fire-eaters to attract the crowds, and 'Back 2 Skool' when our best dancer dressed up as a lollipop lady to help customers cross the street," he said.
Being nominated for awards is nothing new for Paul. He recently won Top Team Player of the Year, as well as being highly commended in the Best Town Centre Pub category in the Pathfinder Pubs' Retail Awards 2004.
