HEREFORD United captain Tony James has said it would be nice to see a few fresh faces at Edgar Street -- so long as those drafted in significantly improve the current squad.

The Bulls skipper's admission came after manager Graham Turner revealed he is attempting to sign new players to strengthen his side in three key departments.

James said: "Every side could do with a few new faces to freshen things up. If we bring in players with good enough quality, which to be fair we have done in the last couple of years, then it can only be good for us.

"I'm not sure if we are bringing in anybody. I know it's only just after Christmas but, as far as I know, I've not heard any names."

James was disappointed with the New Year's Day loss at home to Exeter in the Nationwide Conference, but he remains confident that United will rally back to take the spoils at Burton Albion today.

That would mean Hereford having to end their miserable recent record at Eton Park, crashing 4-1 last season and 2-0 in 2002/03.

James added: "I don't think we've got a home game for three weeks and we've got some very difficult away games. We've not got the best of records against Burton, especially at their place.

"We normally play at Burton on a Friday night, they have done since I've been at the club. It will make a change and I quite like the place. It's a nice ground and they play good football.

"It was difficult (at home to Exeter). The conditions were pretty atrocious to be honest. We had to change the way we played and I think we battled really well. There was not a lot between the two sides, we just felt a few decisions went against us.

"It was disappointing to lose both Exeter games, especially over the Christmas period as we had a lot of games and the fans got to see us play. They wanted better results and three points out of nine was not good enough.

"It's fortunate that we have not dropped any places in the league. A couple of teams have caught up with us but we are still third."
