HAVING expressed similar views to those of your correspondent, Tim Palmer (Letters, Friday, December 31), I feel he is being most unfair to Worcestershire County Council.

Let me remind him that the council did make a decision to relocate Christopher Whitehead School without engaging the services of "highly-paid outside consultants".

This was based on its own judgement as to the inadequacy of existing buildings and site.

The planning decision was challenged by factions who wished the school to remain on the existing site.

They succeeded without having to prove the feasibility of their claim while the council submission was rejected by reason of failure to provide adequate evidence that the ideas were not feasible.

Since then, the council has come under pressure to rebuild on the existing site contrary to its own considered judgement. Should it now meekly submit to the demands of unelected pressure groups or seek independent advice?

Meanwhile, my sympathy remains with the school which continues to endure demoralising uncertainty while having no part in decisions.

I would still prefer interested parties to be motivated in the best interests of the children.

But apparently, such comment is unwelcome from a taxpayer living outside St John's who happens to be related to the headteacher.

JOHN HINTON,

Worcester.
