A TRIO of budding politicians from Droitwich has been chosen to help make a difference by becoming part of a new youth cabinet.
Sarah Smith, Claire Brown and Lucy Jones - all students at Droitwich Spa High School - have been elected to represent Wychavon on the new Worcestershire Youth Cabinet, launched by the county council.
Fellow youngsters elected them after a series of democracy days held throughout October and the cabinet met for the first time at Droitwich Youth House on Wednesday, December 1.
The cabinet is made up of 18 young people from across the county who will soon develop their own website and hold meetings with county councillors.
Sarah, aged 17, decided to stand for the cabinet after she was encouraged to do so by Carla Searle from the youth service.
"Personally my goal is different from the other members, who have listed matters such as safety on the streets as their interests," she said. "I want to work on international relations and try and give others the same opportunities to go abroad that I have had."
Sarah, who is studying for her A-levels, was a Millennium Volunteer and spent 10 days in Poland during the summer holidays experiencing the culture and meeting Polish teenagers.
She hopes to eventually become a youth worker.
Youth worker, Carla Searle added: "The last youth cabinet made a number of contributions to the planning of services in partnership with their adult counterparts.
"The new members will, I'm sure, be just as valuable."
