MUSIC in a marquee at the Farmer's Arms, Kempsey Common, will have to stop earlier this year during an annual motorcycle rally.
"The noise is appalling - absolutely awful," said parish chairman Joy Clee, as the council discussed an application for an entertainments licence to cover the period from 9am on Friday, August 26, to 10am on Monday, August 29.
"There is a problem with the lateness - it goes on until 3am. We can't possibly support a continuous licence. Perhaps we should ask for it to finish at a specific time."
Vice-chairman Ray Ellis suggested that music indoors would be acceptable, but the noise from the marquee carried across the village.
"It's a party and it is only one weekend a year," said Kim Rowswell.
A majority of members agreed that the music could go on until 1am on Saturday and Sunday mornings, but should finish at midnight on Sunday.
