LONG-awaited plans for the redevelopment of the empty Co-op site in Studley have been submitted - but have immediately run into opposition from the parish council.
The Co-op group wants to build five one-bedroom flats, 14 two-bedroom flats and five three-bedroom houses on the land at the corner of Alcester Road and High Street.
Studley Parish Council assessed the plans last week and formally objected to them, not least because they fear the homes would suffer serious noise and air pollution from the busy roads.
Parish councillors felt a three-storey block facing Alcester Road would be overbearing and damage the street scene and they also felt the development would not complement a grade II listed building next to it.
Parish clerk Dot Mitchell said following a public display and consultation in autumn, the developers had decided to lower the height of the buildings at the back of the site along High Street and Marble Alley to two storeys.
She said residents were welcome to see the plans at the parish office in the village hall, High Street, and could also object if they wished.
Stratford Council's Arden area planning committee west will have to decide the outcome of the application, possibly next month.
Meanwhile, another application for flats has been submitted for the site of the old police and parish council office at the top of Bell Lane.
