DANNY Carey-Bertram spearheaded a successful revenge mission as the Bulls bounced back from their Conference defeat at Eton Park to clinch a place in the fourth round of the GLS Cup.

The pacy winger scored twice and could have walked off with the matchball -- only to miss out an a hat-trick when his penalty was saved as Hereford overwhelmed their hosts in extra-time.

Burton twice came from behind in a contest of fluctuating fortunes but the visitors emerged as worthy winners to end a run of three successive defeats away to Nigel Clough's team.

Clough left most of Saturday's team to watch from the stands or the substitutes' bench, while half-strength Hereford gave a debut to former Grimsby midfielder Ashley Hildred.

Bulls' keeper Ben Scott was quickly tested by Dale Anderson as Burton threatened to continue where they left off four days earlier.

This time, however, an experimental home defence was in a much more generous mood and gifted the Bulls the lead in the 12th minute when Craig Stanley's shot was diverted into the opposite corner by the head of Ryan Austin.

Burton equalised in the 33rd minute, Anderson scrambling the ball over the line after Glenn Kirkwood had headed an Andy Ducros corner against the crossbar.

The Bulls managed to regain and surrender the lead for a second in a thrilling end to the first half.

Burton paid for loose marking when Carey-Bertram steamed onto an Andy Williams cross to beat home 'keeper Dan Robinson from 15 yards, but four minutes before the break the Bulls failed to deal with a routine long ball forward by Darren Stride and were made to pay as Robbie Talbot held off Tom Smith to score from the edge of the area.

Burton were denied the lead when substitute Mark Robins' shot came back off the crossbar in the 68th minute, but it was the Bulls who increasingly looked the fresher and stronger team.

They could have won the tie in normal time, but Mark Smith's shot was swept off the line by Clough and, in the 83rd minute, a 20-yard effort from Andy Williams was superbly pushed round the post by Robinson.

Hereford finally regained the lead six minutes into extra time when substitute Adam Stansfield eluded a tiring home defence to nod a Danny Williams cross inside the far post.

Robins unluckily hit the woodwork for a second time as Burton tried to come back for the third time, but Carey-Bertram put the issue beyond doubt with another crisp left-foot finish after good work by David Brown.

He should should have crowned an impressive display with his hat-trick goal four minutes from the end after being upended by Barry Miller, but his spot kick was comfortably saved by Robinson.
