IT is with much amusement that I read L Spiteri's frequent letters to Letters in which he continuously strives to re-write history.

Examples are "Britain re-armed and the Second World War was the result", "Germany and Japan built great economies and an industrial base from scratch after the war".

I always thought Marshall Aid might have had something to do with it.

They also received assistance to rebuild their motor industries from Britain. I'm surprised he hasn't been recognised in the New Year's Honours list for his services to fiction.

On a more serious note, we are subjected to an illogical, biased letter (Letters, Saturday, December 18) in which he castigates Mrs A Tongue for her "cultural prejudices" because she objects to the barbaric (his word) slaughter used in halal butchery.

He doesn't object because "years ago meat was prepared in a similar way in Britain."

Well, we used to indulge in bear baiting, slavery, public executions and burning at the stake and so on.

So, by the same criteria, these activities must also have been totally acceptable?

His constant negativity and criticism of all aspects of the British way of life makes one wonder why he still resides in this country.

Perhaps his letters are written with tongue firmly in cheek?

Whatever, he provides much entertainment to many readers. Keep up the good work.
