For our December meeting we held a Christmas extravaganza at Bentley Village Hall.
Lynne Reading, our newly-elected president, welcomed members and guests then presented Diana Gibbs, our retiring president, with a gift to reiterate our gratitude and appreciation for her admirable term as president.
A welcoming drink of hot punch was followed by a hot supper of numerous meat dishes served with a selection of vegetables all prepared by the committee.
An array of delicious puddings followed, also prepared by members. Michelle Stafford, the brains behind our extravaganza, explained she did not want to let our guests down and once again certain members would be making fools of themselves and she hoped the audience would not be disappointed. She explained she was a follower of The Archers of Ambridge despite the lack of agricultural input. She felt there were numerous similarities between The Archers cast and certain members of the WI. Brenda Bywater, alias Linda Snell, introduced the extravaganza, which took the form of an audition when singers, guitarists, poets, ballet dancers in wellies and belly dancers all took part. A truly wonderful evening was had by all. Bentley WI meet on the second Tuesday in every month at 7.45pm at Bentley Village Hall. New members welcomed.
