THIS is a very extreme, violent sport as one can see just from viewing the promotional video which comes as part of the extras.
Sadly, the game doesn't really recreate the sport to its full potential.
Admittedly gamers can jump off 40ft ladders, smash others through flaming tables and attack faces with barbed wire.
The problem is in the controls and the fun factor.
There are only a few moves that can be executed and, rather than running smoothly, gameplay is slow and cumbersome.
Gamers can be defeated either by pinfall or knockout and there aren't even wrestling rings but rather venues such as shopping malls and desolate areas where gamers butcher each other to death.
Luckily, the soundtrack for the game is impressive with the likes of Spineshank, Sepultura and Machine Head.
If you don't like the music, there's even the option to upload music from your own CD collection.
Sadly, though, this is where the fun ends.
The" create a wrestler" feature is poor because it is not so much create as choose one of 15 pre-created models.
It's a pity that Backyard Wrestling offers very little when there was so much potential.
Those wanting a wrestling game would do better to opt for WWE Smackdown.
