SIXTY years of wedded bliss were celebrated recently for two new residents of Redditch.
James and Lily Waterston, of Bentley Close, Southcrest, were joined by their family for a day out to mark their special occasion.
They met while serving at RAF Honeybourne, Mr Waterston as a groundsman refuelling aircraft and Mrs Waterston serving in the Naafi.
Mr Waterston, 84, said: "I remember there was this new girl and she was just a picture. I bought a cup of tea off her and hung around and that was it."
The couple were married at St James Church, Handsworth, on December 30, 1944, and lived in Bartley Green for 50 years.
They recently moved to Redditch to be near their son David and daughter-in-law Sandra. The couple also have two grandchildren.
Mr Waterston said: "We never really had that much money and life was hard at times, so you work together to make the best of things."
