PEOPLE are being asked to come up with a new name for the Greig Centre sports hall - but it must have nothing to do with sport.

The hall is going to be revamped following the grant of £800,000 from Stratford District Council and although there will still be some sporting activities there - including an upgraded gym - the main function of the building will be as a "community facility".

The council grant is part of a £1million package for the town with the remainder going to Alcester Grammar School to help fund its new sports hall which will be open to the public after school and at weekends.

It was a requirement of the district council that the two venues do not duplicate activities and there is an understanding the school will concentrate on sport and the Greig on other community events.

Centre director Stacy Robinson said: "It might seem daft to be looking for a new name but we feel that as we are making a fresh start, we also need a new identity.

"Now we have been given the money by Stratford District Council we are moving forward and hope to be offering our new facilities as soon as possible. The new name is part of our rebranding process."

Stacy has launched a competition to find the new name and is offering a year's free membership of Bizzy Bodies Health Studio as a prize (or something equivalent if the winner is under 16).

The competition will run to the end of January with the results due to be announced the following month.

To have a chance of winning, put your suggestion on an entry form which is available at the Greig Centre, Kinwarton Road, Alcester.
