Bretforton 2, Portishead Firebrands 1
IT WAS back to action last Saturday when Bretforton faced friendly action on the High School Astro.
It wasn't long before the hosts opened up the scoring from a short corner taken by Dannie Cox that Jane Wheeler met to strike the ball into the net.
Firebrands showed good skills and made a number of attacking forays but player of the match Fiona Baldelli made a number of excellent saves.
The second half saw Firebrands step up the pressure but, despite a number of short corners, they were unable to break through a rock-solid rearguard.
However, they did equalise from a long corner when an attacker was helped by a deflection that beat Baldelli.
Despite Firebrands enjoying slightly more possession in the second half it was Bretforton who scored again from their second short corner when Sophie Corbett gave the keeper no chance with a cracking shot.
Bretforton were unlucky not to increase their lead with Sarah Hall seeing her reverse stick shot hit a post and Corbett also suffering the same fate with a shot from the edge of the D.
The winners resume league action at Cirencester on Saturday.
Bretforton Mixed 2,
Ilmington Mixed 3
ILMINGTON were first to plough their way through the sticky conditions to take the lead.
Another scrambled effort left Bretforton two goals adrift but they clawed themselves level.
They were then indebted to the efforts of goalkeeper Fiona Jordan who proved herself to be "no stick in the mud" as she produced several excellent stops.
However, it was Ilmington who snatched the winner to take the honours.
