A FORMER petrol station could be redeveloped and converted into three residential homes if planners give the go-ahead.
Hercules House Ltd has submitted an application to redevelop Nixons Garage in Welland Road, Upton-upon-Severn to provide two four-bedroom properties and a five-bedroom home.
The site is located in the open countryside on the A4104 between Tunnel Hill and Welland and comprises a former petrol station that has been used for vehicle repairs and recovery.
There is one brick garage on site and a smaller shed alongside, with the remainder of the area occupied by scrap cars.
It is proposed to demolish the existing buildings and replace them with the homes, the layout devised to reflect the form of a farmhouse and yard.
The parish council has objected to the plans on the grounds that it is an over-development of the site in open countryside, which could set a precedent.
A couple of residents have written in supporting the scheme saying it would be a visual improvement.
But planning officers say the proposal would promote an unsustainable pattern of development and are recommending it is refused.
The application is due to be discussed at the council's southern area development control committee meeting at 7pm on Wednesday, January 19.
