KIDDERMINSTER Chess Club secretary Maurice Bissell competed for the second time in the annual University of Westminster congress, at Harrow.
Playing in the Open tournament Bissell won one game, drew four, and lost only one in the three-day event.
Alan Ruffle won the Under-150 event with five points from a possible six.
Kidderminster Knights scored a convincing victory against Droitwich in Division One of the Worcester and District League.
Captain John Wrench failed to take advantage of a two-pawn advantage to draw, but his team ran out 3-1 winners.
