A PELICAN crossing is poised to be built to help youngsters cross a busy road safely.
Worcestershire County Council chief transportation engineer, Tom Comerford, told Warndon Parish Council meeting on Monday the crossing on Woodgreen Drive would receive Worcester City Council funding in the 2005/06 budget.
"We are very pleased that the engineers have said it is especially needed," said Leslie Bishop, clerk to the parish council.
"That it is needed is beyond a shadow of a doubt, because it is very well used by children as they go to school" he explained.
Pupils use it to go to Warndon Infants' and Junior Schools in Edgeworth Close.
But two other funding bids for pelican crossings on Woodgreen Drive have been shelved.
A crossing near the Middle Hollow roundabout had "little chance" of receiving funding, because there was no accident history in the area, said Mr Comerford.
He said another application for a crossing near Dugdale Drive would be proposed for the 2005/06 financial year.
