IN response to Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust chief executive, John Rostill, stating that there "has been no overwhelming support for Wyre Forest Birth Centre to be re-opened", I would like to question whether any public consultation on this matter has, in fact, taken place.
After my son was born recently, I spent four days receiving post-natal care at Kidderminster Hospital. The care and support I received from the midwives and health care assistants at the unit was exemplary, with some midwives working above and beyond the call of duty, despite difficult working conditions and low morale.
I wholeheartedly support the re-opening of the birth centre and feel that the withdrawal of post-natal services at Kidderminster will be to the detriment of women and their families throughout this area.
I would be happy to take part in any public consultation exercise regarding this matter, although I fear that the decision has already been made and no public opinion will change this.
