MORE misery has been caused by bags going astray from a National Express coach luggage hold.
A 15-year-old spending the holiday with her mother in Drakes Broughton lost all her Christmas presents travelling home between Birmingham and Grimsby.
Last week, the Journal reported the happy reunion of rucksacks after an appeal in our paper for information. A father of three from Manchester lost his presents to his daughter after Marco Raimundo travelling to Evesham picked up the wrong bag, but they were able to swap them back.
Petalea Allen, Mrs Sally Porter's daughter, may not be so lucky. The schoolgirl started for home on January 4 from Birmingham but when she arrived at the Freshney shopping centre in Grimsby she was handed a bag by the driver that wasn't hers. It was the only holdall left and nothing like her own bag. Instead of containing a personal CD player, jewellery and loads of new clothes, the bag she was given contained an old pair of working boots.
Mrs Porter said: "She was really upset, and so was I. When I rang the bus company they said we should have paid a 99p insurance fee, but we didn't know anything about that."
National Express spokeswoman, Emma Taynton said: "The insurance fee is especially low to encourage people to purchase it, I am surprised Petalea was not aware of it. We very much regret the loss of her bag, and will do all we can to get it back if she writes to us. All our new buses are being fitted with CCTV cameras directed on the luggage holds."
