At the meeting on January 5, Tom Roy talked about "Robert Burns - The Man".
The Scottish poet was born in Alloa in 1759, and died in 1796. He was brought up on his father's farm, where he had started writing verse, then he worked for Customs and Excise.
His early verse was mostly in his rural dialect - Doric. Among his best known poems are Auld Lang Syne and Tam O'Shanter.
The next meeting of the club will be at Chester Road Bowling Club on Wednesday when Geoff Barlow will talk about being a magistrate.
