GENEROUS Vale residents are continuing to raise thousands of pounds for relief work being carried out in the tsunami disaster areas.
One of the biggest efforts came from Harvington villagers who raised more than £7,000 in three days.
Sheila Wolstenholme held a coffee morning last Thursday raising £626, a non uniform day held at the school clocked up £451, then on Saturday Jilly Jones and Gail Prendergast organised a huge sale in the village hall which included raffles and promises from businesses which raised £5,831.
Mrs Jones said: "Everyone worked very hard and the money is going to Oxfam to provide sanitation facilities for a village in Asia."
Sponges
Evesham firefighters held a car wash last Saturday and raised £1,680, and thanked Halfords Ltd for providing free sponges, wash and wax, and the washers.
They said some children turned up with their pocket money in bags; there was also a cheque for £100.
Last Friday, Cropthorne with Charlton CE First School organised a bring and buy sale which raised £504.85 in just over an hour, and last Saturday Evesham Library raised £850 with a coffee morning.
A total amount of £1,004 was raised by the children at Swan Lane First School, Evesham last Friday with a non-uniform day.
Willersey villagers' coffee morning raised £2,600, and at Bidford Firefighters raised £2,463.17 when they held a voluntary toll to cross Bidford Bridge last Saturday.
And there are more events with more fund-raising to come:
l A special relax and unwind event is to be held this Saturday when a range of therapists on hand at Pershore Town Hall for Indian head massages, Reiki and hand massages.
Police will also be code marking mobile phones, with the proceeds going to the appeal.
People of all ages will also be able to enjoy a cake stall, vegetable stall, tombola, a quiz, and coffee at the event which takes place from 1.30pm to 4.30pm.
l TWO Indian restaurants - one in Evesham and one in Pershore, are cooking up ways to raise cash for the appeal.
Muhammed Khan from Rily's in Evesham's Waterside, is organising an Indian buffet plus raffle at the restaurant from 2pm at £15 a ticket, obtainable from the restaurant. For further details contact Mr Khan on 01386 45289.
l Cooks at Shunarga Tandori restaurant in Pershore's High Street are dishing up an authentic Indian five course meal next Tuesday from 6pm for £25 with £15 going to the disaster fund. For details ring 555357.
l Rodney Haines from Rod's Taxis has also pledged to donate 48 per cent of any fares to the appeal from participating customers.
