PLANS have been announced to knock down a derelict pub on a Kidderminster estate for housing.

The former Comberton Arms, in Coronation Way, would be replaced by 10 three-bedroomed houses and four two-bedroomed homes under the scheme.

The pub had been vandalised and had become an "eyesore" since closing last year, said the Rev Hugh Burton, the vicar at St Chad's Church, which is opposite the pub.

Mr Burton, who is also vice-chairman of the Offmore and Comberton Action Group, said: "Certainly, in the last few months, it has been vandalised and there has been a lot of graffiti over it and windows broken so, in it's present state, it is an eyesore and would be much better knocked down."

He said the action group would support affordable housing on the site.

PC Bob Fearnall, of Kidderminster police, said the site had become a "magnet" for vandals.

He said: "I welcome the redevelopment of the site as an improvement for the area and the quality of life of the residents."

The application has been submitted to Wyre Forest District Council and will be decided on by its planning (development control) committee.
