IT'S not too late to get fit and to keep your new year's resolution. Come along to keep fit with Lyn at Powick Parish Hall every Monday from 8.15pm. Classes are to music and are for all levels of ability and fitness, for all ages. Each session costs £2.75 and is led by Lyn Snook, a qualified trainer, (01905) 830255.
Sunday morning's service at St Peter's Church, Powick took the form of stories of hymns based on some well-known hymns. Reverend David Nichol described the writers behind the hymns including William Cowper and John Newtown, and how they came to be written. Prayers were led by Jo Walker and a story about the Melanesian Islands of the south-west Pacific was read by Meg Allsopp.
Next week, from January 18-25, marks the week of prayer for Christian unity. Among other events, a united games evening is being held at Somers Park Avenue Methodist Church, Malvern Link next Wednesday, January 19 at 7.15pm. A team will be representing both St Peter's (Powick) and St James' (Callow End) in table tennis, snooker and Ludo.
Parishioners are also invited to join the sisters of Stanbrook Abbey at Callow End on Monday, January 24 from 7.15pm. This is a rare chance to talk with the sisters and to join them in compline (evening prayers). For free tickets, ring Reverend David Nichol (01905) 830270.
