RANGERS travelled to Kington for a West Midlands League division two fixture and as soon as they arrived were fairly adamant that the game wouldn't take place.
One goalmouth was covered in surface water, the centre circle was soft, uneven mud and the pitch, especially down the middle, was virtually unplayable. It didn't take the officials, which included the referees' appointment secretary, long to call the game off.
Rangers' secretary Brian Burge said: "How the pitch was declared playable by a supposed morning inspection is beyond us all. Why Kington didn't accept Rangers offer to switch the fixture to Victoria Park as the teams haven't met yet, is again a mystery."
Tomorrow (Saturday) Rangers, sponsored by the Cross Keys Inn, entertain local rivals Malvern Town Reserves in the Evesham Hospital Cup at Victoria Park, kick-off 2pm, players to meet 1pm.
