THE Soccer Site Malvern League resumed on Sunday after a two week break and in the only league game of the day, Oak Allstars gave their best team performance of the season.
They regained second place in division one with a convincing 6-2 victory when they visited Bell Inn 98. Jamie Gladwin gave Oak Allstars the lead with a shot from 12 yards. Zeki Koral made it 2-0 when he converted a cross from Neil Gardiner, who was a constant problem for the home team with some superb passing and through balls.
Jamie Gladwin made it 3-0 before Bell Inn pulled a goal back when, fittingly on his 50th birthday, Jim Argent found the net with a superb shot from a very acute angle, his goal bought a round of applause from both sets of players.
Oak Allstars made it 4-1 with a goal which saw a brilliant move involving numerous players, ended with James Dean putting a superb through ball to Jamie Gladwin, who finished it well to complete his hat-trick. It also highlights his importance to the team in the absence of prolific goal scorer Jamie James, who is on 'walkabout' in Australia until the end of the season.
Bell Inn 98 pulled a goal back with a stunning 40-yard volley from Ashley Jones. Mark Tomans made it 5-2 when he netted following a mazy run and the scoring was completed by a fine strike from Koral.
The other three games played were in the League Cup with the result of the day coming in Pool C where Belmont Keys entertained Ganglands. With only one point separating them in the pool, it was Belmont who made a mockery of the division two positions when they scored a crushing 10-1 victory over their visitors.
Prolific goal scorer Dave Perera was on target four times, with his best effort a 20-yard half volley. Not to be outdone, Rob Jones also notched up four goals with the other goals coming from Matt Doveton, with a well-struck free-kick from 25 yards, and a strike from the edge of the area by Darren Pearce. Ganglands' consolation goal came from Trevor Worgan.
There were two cup games in Pool D, Morgan Aero 8 went down 2-4 at home to Cross Keys with their goals coming from Dave Lawrence and Mark Philpotts and the visitors' goals from Rob Cullen, Ollie Endacott and two from Damion Lloyd.
In the pool's other game, Perowne Park Rangers visited Keys Victoria and won 7-0. Matt Harris notched a hat-trick with the other goals coming from Stuart Greaves, Mike Dean, Paul Williams and a 30-yard thunderbolt from James Cale.
The spotlight this Sunday falls on the Evesham Cup, where Cross Keys and Belmont Keys are involved, and the Worcester Infirmary Cup which gets under way belatedly with Fromes Hill and Dilligaf United playing each other. Perowne Park Rangers and Dynamo Ledbury also represent the Soccer Site League in this competition.
