n A PAIR of lime trees have been felled at the entrance to the car park in Old Street, Upton. They were believed to be more than two centuries old. Malvern Hills Highways Partnership removed them after a report showed they were unsafe.
n UPTON Hill Centre is currently undergoing some refurbishment. Rooms are being re-painted, carpets cleaned and minor repairs carried out. The centre will be open as usual while the work continues.
n A QUIZ night takes place at Upton Sports Club on Friday, January 21, at 7.30pm. It is being organised by Upton Rowing Club and entry is £4, to include a ploughmans supper. There will also be a bar and raffle. For more information call 01684 593180.
n A TRADITIONAL Burns Night takes place in Upton on Saturday, January 22. The event is at 7.30pm at The Swan and is being organised by the Castaways and The Ketch cruising clubs. A local piper will provide the music, while guests enjoy haggis and whiskey. Tickets are £18.50 on 01684 594552.
n UPTON Folk Group meets at Bridge House, Waterside on Saturday (January 15). Members meet every third Saturday of the month at 8.30pm. For more details call 01684 591580. The meeting date printed in last week's Malvern Gazette was incorrect.
n BLUESMAN Perry Foster will perform at The Swan in Upton tonight (Friday). The free gig at 9pm marks the launch of regular Friday night music events at the Waterside pub. Sian Murch, who runs the pub with Mark Wooley, said: "We felt there was a real need for it. Other pubs have music but not on a Friday night."
n A SALE takes place at Hanley Swan Village Hall tomorrow (Saturday). The event runs from 9am to noon and will raise funds for the village hall.
n AN exhibition of work by artist Elizabeth Long runs at Upton Library until the end of the month. The exhibition is entitled Mixed Abstracts.
n WEST Worcestershire MP Sir Michael Spicer will be holding a surgery at the Memorial Hall, Upton, tomorrow (Saturday), from 10am.
n UPTON Town Council will meet on Tuesday (January 18) at 7.30pm at the Memorial Hall.
