WEST Malvern travelled to Inkberrow Reserves in the Phipps Cup hoping to give a better performance than when they were thrashed 6-1 at home.
INKBERROW RESERVES 0, WEST MALVERN 0
The game was played on a heavy pitch in blustery conditions. Inkberrow thought they had broken the deadlock in the fifth minute only to have their goal ruled out for offside. West Malvern began to press and with the front two of Graeme MacLennan and Will Hardy they looked dangerous at times and should have gone in front but Hardy drove into the side netting.
Anthony Holder played well on the right of midfield and got in a number of crosses, the best fell to Rick Charley who rounded the keeper and instead of squaring the ball, drove it wide.
The second half followed a similar pattern to the first with West Malvern doing most of the attacking but still failing to make the most of the few chances they created. The best effort came from Dougie Hawes, whose 15-yard shot cannoned back off the bar.
Matty Powell in the West Malvern goal was rarely troubled and at the end of the day West Malvern came away with a well-deserved draw.
Tomorrow (Saturday) West Malvern, sponsored by Amey and the Cross Keys, entertain local rivals Hanley Swan in the Phipps Cup, players meet at the ground at 1.30pm for 2.15pm kick-off.
