THIS Nursing Cup quarter-final at Brickfields started at furious pace.
BLACKPOLE 2, NELSON 4
Blackpole opened the scoring when a free kick from 35-yards was lashed into the top corner by Paul King. After ten minutes pressure from five Nelson corners finally told and Ian Luton found Kevin Downes, who powerfully headed home.
Blackpole regained the lead through a Paul King penalty after Neil Harrison had been penalised for pushing.
This didn't affect the Nelson play and the grit and determination from Adrian Platt and Kev Downes was enormous. This allowed Ian Luton into the attacking midfield role again to play in Jones who once again beat the defence to shoot. The keeper again saved at his feet only to parry the ball into the path of the advancing Stu Harvey, who tapped into an open net for 2-2.
Minutes later Harvey was at the back post again and slotted-in a cross from the hard-working Mike Cole to lead 2-3.
Eventually the fourth goal topped a great man-of-the-match performance when a Nick Prosser cross was headed out by the Gerald Allen but not far enough. The ball fell to Ian Luton, who took one touch and volleyed it over the keeper from 20 yards out.
On Sunday, Nelson are due to be away at Bromsgrove General.
