IN division three of the Malvern Table Tennis League, Uckinghall got the new year off to a good start with a four point win over Dukes Way Dynamos. But Dynamos put up a tough fight with five sets going to four games and one to the fifth.
Matt Jones, Roger Davies and Peter Quy were the winning trio.
The three young players for Allsorts played very well to take a point from their match with Abbeydowne. Alex Lindner and Lizzy Gorton both won a set in straight games and James Mulka was unlucky to lose a fourth game 10-12.
The set of the evening was Lizzy Gorton against Peter Dennis, who with his hard bat is always difficult to play. Peter won the first to seven and Lizzy won the next two six and four but Peter took the last two. Peter and Bill Lucas each won three singles and the doubles.
Maulers had a three point win over X-Police to put them top of the third division with half the sets going to four games and one to five. Steve Mulka won a singles and the double with Malcolm Dalley. Ralph Cook won one for X-Police. Don James and Bill Smith each won three singles for Maulers and Ray Davies one.
Seven sets went to a fourth game and four of them to five in a very competitive top of the table clash between Crackpots B and Manor Park Crackpots. As it resulted in a draw it allowed Maulers to overtake them both in the table. Alan Forsdike won two and Ted Cates and Stephen Lindner one each and the all important doubles for the B team. Richard Cullis won three and Stan Ginn two for the Manor Park team.
Results: Uckinghall 10, Dukes Way Dynamos 0; Manor Park Maulers 7, X-Police 3; Crackpots B 5, Manor Park Crackpots 5; Manor Park Allsorts 2, Abbeydowne 8.
All players are reminded that the league quiz night will be held at the Vaughan Hall, Manor Park next Saturday (January 22) and the profit will go to the Air Ambulance Fund.
