THE big news in the Malvern Gazette 50 years ago was the completion of the town's 1,000th post-war council house at 7 Moat Way.
The building was officially opened by Earl Beauchamp, who praised the council for its energy in building so many houses so quickly.
The paper described it as a "compact, well-built, three-bedroom house".
It said: "In the kitchen, emphasis has been laid on providing the equipment needed for the day-to-day running of the house within a minimum of distance.
"In the lounge is a tiled all-night type of fire grate and at the rear a compact dining room. Upstairs, which is reached by means of a stairway from the entrance hall, there is one large bedroom and two smaller ones."
It was built by the well-known local firm of Martin Wilesmith and Sons and given to a Mr and Mrs J Hall, who had been on the waiting list for council house for nine years.
