KIDDERMINSTER Harriers fans have been crying out for a 'fox in the box' over the last few seasons but perhaps their man has finally arrived at Aggborough.

Certainly, Blair Sturrock's three goals in four starts and a sub appearance before today's game at Macclesfield Town have been a pleasant surprise.

Since Bo Henriksen faded out of the Harriers picture following a spectacular 20-goal haul in one season, the men from Aggborough have struggled to hit the net regularly.

But, in ex-Dundee United, Brechin City and Plymouth Argyle forward Sturrock, manager Stuart Watkiss seems to have discovered someone with a goal-scorer's instinct.

The past goal record of Sturrock, 23, may not have suggested this but then he was largely restricted to sitting on the bench at Championship outfit Plymouth over three successful seasons.

He seems to be a class above Coca-Cola League Two and the early signs from last Saturday's 2-1 win over Lincoln City were that he could form a good strike partnership with Gary Birch.

Ex-Walsall player Birch is more of a target-man and the two strikers' games should really compliment each other's, especially with the necessary creativity provided from midfield.

Sturrock admitted: "Lincoln was the first time we've played up front together and we ran them ragged for a spell. Gary is strong and wins headers.

"I can gamble and run off him. He did win a lot of headers against Lincoln, even though some of their boys were 6ft 5ins. I'm not going to win as many headers but I just have to try to get in front of defenders and put them off."

And, as for goals, Sturrock added: "A striker wants to score in every game and so far three goals is good for me. I'll be hungry for goals every week. If you get the chances, you've got to take them."
