FURTHER to the controversy over the TV broadcasting of Jerry Springer - The Opera, many of us were very concerned that despite a huge protest, nearly 40,000 people writing, phoning or texting their opinion that this show offended their taste, the BBC continued broadcasting it.

A number of apologists for the show advised us either to turn off or change channel. I did the latter and turned to BBC2, only to find Billy Connolly uttering obnoxious views in language I prefer not to have in my household.

No doubt you are getting many more views sent to you, asking what we Christians can be doing to make the BBC or any other broadcaster realise that many of us have got to the point that decency must be upheld and our opinions must be recognised.

I am against the violence that has been exercised in some quarters, particularly coming from non-Christian religions.

However, it appears that some form of direct action does give weight to an argument.

Is it not time that the thousands who are so concerned about the Beeb's rejection of our demands for good taste should be doing something which would make them sit up and take notice?

One thing that comes to mind, and would achieve a considerable witness for our views and certainly affect the BBC, would be to withhold our TV licence fee. I personally am prayerfully considering such action.

Of course, as an individual, I would be easily ignored and eventually would appear before the magistrates for non-payment of my licence fee. But imagine if thousands were to do the same - what a rumpus would be caused!
